Organizational School Board Meeting Monday, January 8, 2024 ORGANIZATIONAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Jennifer McDonald, School Board Chair, at 7:00 p.m. II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call MEMBERS PRESENT: Jennifer McDonald, Kimberly Parmeter, Lynn Peterson, Amy Pocrnich, Jim Podgornik, Larry Shelton, and Joe Ward MEMBERS ABSENT: None STUDENT LIAISON MEMBERS: Kailyn Morin and Abigail Schunk Also in Attendance: Kerry Juntunen, Superintendent and Stephen Anderson, Business Manager IV. Election of Chairperson Nominations opened for Chairperson of the Board. Jennifer McDonald served as Chairperson of the Board during the past year. Larry Shelton nominated Joe Ward. Lynn Peterson nominated Amy Pocrnich. VOTE: Joe Ward received four votes (McDonald, Podgornik, Shelton, Ward); Amy Pocrnich received three votes (Parmeter, Peterson, Pocrnich). Joe Ward was elected Chairperson of the Board and began running the meeting. V. Election of Vice Chair-person/Treasurer of the Board Nominations opened for Vice Chairperson/Treasurer of the Board. Amy Pocrnich served as Vice Chairperson/Treasurer during the past year. Joe Ward nominated Jennifer McDonald. There were no other nominations. Bonding of Designated District Positions The District has included $100,000 as a blanket bond for all positions under the current insurance carrier, thus a separate bond is not necessary. Designation of Official Depositories Designated the First National Bank of Proctor, the Proctor Federal Credit Union, PMA Financial Network, Prudent Man Advisors, Members Cooperative Credit Union, and PFM/Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund as the official depositories for ISD 704. MOTION: Moved by Lynn Peterson and seconded by James Podgornik, to designate the First National Bank of Proctor, the Proctor Federal Credit Union, PMA Financial Network, Prudent Man Advisors, Members Cooperative Credit Union, and PFM/Minnesota School District Liquid Asset Fund as the official depositories for ISD 704. Revised the Pay Grade for Heather Nelson, 20 hours per week cook assistant at the secondary site, from Pay Grade 20 to Pay Grade 17, effective November 6, 2023. 4. Approved the recommendation to hire Melissa Burr into the 23 hours per week educational assistant position at Bay View Elementary effective January 2, 2024. 6. Volunteers are needed. She further stated that tickets for the REA3D Candlelight dinner are still available. That event will be held on February 16 at the Greysolon Ballroom. The featured speaker is Proctor alumnus, Dan Cox, a world-renowned nature and wildlife photographer. d) Larry Shelton thanked Pike Lake Presbyterian Church for its continued financial support to the district. He also talked about Twig Days last weekend and thanked the coaches and staff for making it such a successful event. e) Joe Ward expressed gratitude for Jennifer McDonald as the outgoing chair. He recognized that she led the district through difficult times, and she has been recognized at both the State and National levels as an outstanding board member. B. Student Liaison Board Member Concerns 1. Abigail Schunk praised the teams and clubs who volunteered during the holiday season, she mentioned the elementary, middle school, and high school concerts including how well they were attended and broadcasted on RailsTV, she voiced the lack of snow for the ski teams, and reminded the board regarding the last three weeks of the semester – crunch time! 2. Kailyn Morin spoke about activity day at the high school, DECA raising $861.00 for the Miller Dwan Foundation for mental health, the boy’s varsity hockey team including their record, and the parking issue at the arena.   It is Ordered and Notice is given that on  February 27,  2024, at 1:30 p.m., a hearing will be held in this Court at Duluth, Minnesota,  for the formal probate of an instrument purporting to be the Will of the Decedent, dated May 12, 2022,  and for the appointment of Nathan J. Norman, whose address is 821 Hamilton Dr.,  Duluth, MN 55811, as Personal Representative of the Estate of the Decedent in an UNSUPERVISED  administration.
   Any objections to the Petition must be filed with the Court prior to or raised at the hearing. If  proper  and  if no objections are filed or raised, the Personal Representative will be appointed with full power to administer the  Estate including the power to collect all assets, to pay all legal debts, claims, taxes, and expenses, to sell real and personal property, and to do all necessary acts for the Estate.
   Notice is also given that (subject to Minnesota Statutes section 524.3-801) all creditors having claims  against the  Estate are required to present the claims to the Personal Representative or to the Court Administrator within four months after the date of this Notice or the claims will be barred.
   A charitable beneficiary may request notice of the probate proceedings be given to the Attorney General pursuant to Minnesota Statutes section 501B.41, subdivision 5.
