Regular School Board Meeting Monday, March 27, 2023 REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING I. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Jennifer McDonald, School Board Chair at 7:00 p.m. II. Pledge of Allegiance III. Roll Call MEMBERS PRESENT: Jennifer McDonald, Lynn Peterson, Amy Pocrnich, Jim Podgornik, Larry Shelton, and Joe Ward MEMBERS ABSENT: Kimberly Parmeter STUDENT LIAISON MEMBERS: None Also in Attendance: Kerry Juntunen, Superintendent and Business Manager Stephen Anderson IV. Commended Mr. Honkola and his students for their partnership with Community Education to cut and prepare all the wood for the upcoming DIY Noodle Board class. C. Congratulated Abby Hanson, Sophie Parendo, and Maddy Walsh for being selected to the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association All State Academic Team. D. Congratulated the following basketball players for making All Conference: Girls Hope Carlson, 1st Team Lily Smith, Honorable Mention Chloe Carlson, Honorable Mention Boys Josh Synnott – Honorable Mention VIII. Public Comment A. Tom Covington addressed the board and spoke about Grant Hauschchild and Natalie Zeleznikar attending the open forum at the St. Luke’s Event Center. They talked about education. He commented that the meeting was well attended. IX. Consent Agenda MOTION: Moved by Amy Pocrnich and seconded by Jim Podgornik, to approve the consent agenda as submitted. A. Personnel Items 1. Approved the request for a leave of absence from Jodi Kethel, 32.5 hours per week Media Center Clerk/Educational Assistant at Pike Lake Elementary, beginning September 6, 2023, through May 31, 2024. 2. Approved the request for a leave of absence from Christopher Parker, union bus driver, beginning March 17, 2023, through June 8, 2023. 3. Approved the request for a leave of absence from Heather Nelson, custodian at the secondary site, beginning February 15, 2023, through approximately March 29, 2023. 4. Eliminated the 11.25 hrs/wk educational assistant (riding a bus with a student) position. Sonia Sturdevant previously held this position. 5. Revised the end date for Michael Michelizzi as the 1.0 FTE math interventionist long-term substitute teacher at Jedlicka Middle School from April 14, 2023, to April 4, 2023. 6. Approved the recommendation to hire Anna Kidd as the head girls’soccer coach effective March 27, 2023. 7. Approved the recommendation to hire Alan Stingley as a union bus driver effective February 28, 2023. 8. Accepted the resignation letter from Skylar Gunderson, Check and Connect Mentor at Proctor High School, effective April 28, 2023. X. Items for Individual Action A. Adopted a resolution authorizing the Superintendent of Schools to close open enrollment options based on reviews of class size and school capacities for the 2023-2024 school year. MOTION: Moved by Lynn Peterson and seconded by Amy Pocrnich, to adopt a resolution authorizing the Superintendent of Schools to close open enrollment options based on reviews of class size and school capacities for the 2023-2024 school year as submitted. Accepted the “Notice of Desire to Negotiate” from AFSCME Local 66 and our Bus Drivers, and directed Superintendent Juntunen to establish dates and procedures to negotiate the 2023-2025 contracts. MOTION: Moved by Larry Shelton and seconded by Lynn Peterson, to accept the “Notice of Desire to Negotiate” from AFSCME Local 66, and direct Superintendent Juntunen to establish dates and procedures to negotiate the 2023-2025 contracts as revised. The topics included education and health care. c) Joe Ward commended the sheriff’s department for being at township meetings.
