Thanked the Proctor and Hermantown Police and Fire Department for their continued support and for their escort out of town for the Mirage State bound hockey team. D. Congratulated Zak McPhee for making All Conference in wrestling at the 182 Weight Class. He is also statebound this weekend. E. Commended all of the participants who participated in the Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 18th. F. Congratulated Proctor senior, Hope Carlson, for hitting 1,000 career points. She is the sixth player in the history of the girls’ basketball program to reach 1,000 career points. G. The next board agenda will include the REA3D Candlelight event. VIII. Public Comment A. Moved up item XI. B. Judi Vitito addressed the board regarding LETRS training. She defined the science of reading and briefly addressed how the brain learns to read and included brief video clips that summed up the science of reading. Jill Lackner discussed phonological awareness and talked about the difference between this concept and phonics. Dehlia Seim presented an advanced phonemic awareness lesson with students from her classroom. Students Amelia Cavallin, third grade; Brenna Sweeney, third grade; and Ellis Johnson, fourth grade participated in the mini-lesson. Jenna Kelly presented week 7 of a kindergarten lesson. Shelly Larson presented onset and rhyme. Mrs. Graves presented sound walls and talked about the articulation of sounds. Judi recapped the presentation by talking about LETRS training, Heggerty, Lexia Power Up, David Kilpatrick, Universal screeners, and ELA committee work. Mrs. Graves’ class presented the board with a thank you sign for school board recognition month. IX. Consent Agenda MOTION: Moved by Kimberly Parmeter and seconded by Jim Podgornik, to approve the consent agenda as revised. Adjustment of stipend – A.4 A. Personnel Items 1. Approved the recommendation to hire Victoria Behrman into the 23 hours per week educational assistant position at Bay View Elementary effective January 30, 2023. 2. Approved the recommendation to hire Kaitlyn Steffan into the 1.0 FTE special education long-term substitute teacher position at Bay View Elementary beginning February 15, 2023, through June 9, 2023. 3. Approved the recommendation to hire Sonia Sturdevant into the 11.25 hrs/wk educational assistant (riding a bus with a student) position effective February 21, 2023. 4. Approved the recommendation to hire Adam Frase as the assistant golf coach beginning in the 2022-23 golf season. 5. Approved the recommendation to hire Tanner Richey as the assistant baseball coach beginning in the 2022-23 baseball season. 6. Approved the recommendation to rehire Darrelette Silver as a 24.5 hours per week educational assistant at Bay View Elementary effective February 27, 2023. 7. Accepted the verbal resignation from Robert Chicos as the playground supervisor at Bay View Elementary effective February 17, 2023. 8. Approved the lane change request for Teresa Nyberg effective January 30, 2023. 9. Approved the 6th assignment for Laura Rice, Speech Language Pathologist, for ECSE beginning February 28, 2023, through the remainder of the school year. X. Items for Individual Action A. Accepted the “Notice of Desire to Negotiate” from EdMN Proctor Teachers, and directed Superintendent Juntunen to establish dates and procedures to negotiate the 2023-2025 contract. MOTION: Moved by Joe Ward and seconded by Lynn Peterson, to accept the “Notice of Desire to Negotiate” from EdMN Proctor Teachers, and direct Superintendent Juntunen to establish dates and procedures to negotiate the 2023-2025 contract as submitted. School Board Comments and Observations 1. School Board Celebrations a) Lynn Peterson commented on the REA3D dinner and the outpouring of community and staff support. It was a huge success. She also praised the LETRS training and the incredible job our teachers are doing. She recognized the sign Mrs. Graves’ class lovingly made for the school board. b) Jennifer McDonald thanked the REA3D board for being included in the REA3D candlelight event. c) Kimberly Parmeter talked about the Mirage team and exuding school pride. Thank you to Rails TV for its coverage. The culinary competition will take place tomorrow. Robotics competition will be on Friday at the DECC. The spring play was cast and will be staged in April. d) Amy Pocrnich referenced the LETRS training demonstration. B. Student Liaison Board Member Comments 1. Abby Schunk talked about the band competition and recognized Brita Berglund, Elissa Donahue, Lindsey Aho, Ava Swanstrom, and Aurora Moen-Smith; they all received superior ratings. She attended the staff development event where Anton Truer spoke. She said the teachers were touched with his message regarding culture. He will be returning to the district. She also attended the Youth in Action Council for developing student leaders. 2. Brooklyn Burch talked about the Mirage’s appearance at the State tournament. This team also won the Academic Award with a collective GPA of 3.917. She thanked both communities for their continued support throughout the season and thanked the Proctor Police Department for the escort out of and back into town. The Mirage took fourth place at State. Brooklyn recognized Hope Carlson’s 1000 points achievement and congratulated the boys hockey team on their season. Softball captains practice begins next week. Girls and boys lacrosse opened today; this sport is partnered with Hermantown. Boys and girls basketball playoffs will begin soon. She also congratulated Zak McPhee going to state and congratulated the students who participated with the Night to Shine event. C. Township and City Communications 1. Kerry presented the board members with the township meetings notes with a focus on education and reminded board members to leave passes for senior citizens. XIV. It is Ordered and Notice is given that on April 25, 2023, at 1:30 p.m., a hearing will be held in this Court at the St. Louis County Courthouse, Duluth, Minnesota, on a petition for the adjudication of intestacy and determination of decedent’s heirs, and for the appointment of Wendy Pfeffer, 1504 1/2 S. Highway 33, Suite B, Cloquet, MN 55720, as personal representative of the decedent’s estate in an unsupervised administration. Any objections to the petition must be raised at the hearing or filed with the Court prior to the hearing. If the petition is proper and no objections are filed or raised, the personal representative will be appointed with the full power to administer the decedent’s estate, including the power to collect all assets; to pay all legal debts, claims, taxes, and expenses; to sell real and personal property; and to do all necessary acts for the decedent’s estate. Notice is further given that, subject to Minn. Stat. § 524.3-801, all creditors having claims against the decedent’s estate are required to present the claims to the personal representative or to the Court within four (4) months after the date of this notice or the claims will be barred.
