A gunshot wound ended the life of a suspect after he allegedly attempted an armed abduction last Friday night that stretched from Pike Lake to Saginaw.
On January 29 at 5:51 p.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle carjacked by a male suspect. The incident started at the Super One Store in Pike Lake. The male subject was armed, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office.
The suspect carjacked a vehicle with an adult female and her 16-year old son in it. The carjacking ended in the parking lot of the Saginaw Union Station at Hwy. 194 and f Hwy. 2. Around 6:15 p.m. the subject fled on foot holding a handgun, according to the sheriffs. The male subject was deceased at the scene, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Department.
The victims were able to call for help.
One of two St. Louis County Deputy’s used deadly force while utilizing a canine to track the subject northeast of the Saginaw Union Station in a wooded area.
Sheriff’s Office deputies and their canine were not injured. The woman and her son were not physically injured.
The deputies have been placed on administrative leave and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been called in to assist with an investigation. Both are standard procedure following a shooting.
The investigation is still ongoing.
