Hwy. 2 collision between car, semi leaves 1 dead in Proctor

One person is dead and another is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries aftera car crashed head-on with a logging truckon Hwy 2 near old Hwy 2 at 3:21 a.m. Wednesday morning.

A 2004 Nissan Altima traveling east on Hwy. 2 crossed the lane line and was struck by a 2016 Volvo Semi Cab traveling west on Hwy. 2.  The Nissan ended up coming to rest in the eastbound land of the highway and the semi in the westbound ditch.


The 29-year old male driver of the Nissan died and the passenger, a 28-year-old from Proctor is at a Duluth hospital with life-threatening injures.  While the airbags in the Nissan was deployed the driver was unbelted according to Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Neil Dickenson.

The 59-year-old Hinkley, MN driver of the truck was not hurt.

As of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday the section of the Highway remained closed with traffic being diverted onto Railroad Street.

St. Louis County, Hermantown, Proctor Fire and Mayo EMS assisted the Proctor Police Department.
